The Economic Research Organization (ERO) was founded in 2020 to support research, education, and collaboration in economics. Originally launched as a project under the Open Collective Foundation, we provided early support for initiatives like sigecom (the ACM’s Special Interest Group in Economics) and econtwitter.net (a Mastodon instance for the economics community).

When the Open Collective Foundation ceased operations in 2024, we transitioned our fiscal sponsorship to Hack Club Bank. We used this time to consolidate our operations and expand our reach. In particular, we formally brought econtwitter.net under the ERO umbrella and absorbed Think Tutor, a nonprofit tutoring platform.

In 2026, the Economic Research Organization became an independent Maryland Corporation with 501(c)(3) status. We continue to build and support initiatives, projects, and infrastructure for the economics community.
